Resolution can be defined as the number of pixels used by the projector to create an image. The higher the resolution, the better sharpness and clarity of the picture on the screen. Usually quoted in two numbers, (1024 x 768) The first number represents the number of pixels across the screen. The second number represents the number of pixels from top to bottom. The different types of resolutions are as follows: Resolution Pixels Comments VGA 640 x 480 The lowest resolution and the least expensive. SVGA 800 x 600 Many laptops are SVGA resolution, thus making SVGA a popular choice. XGA 1024 x 768 With new products coming out in XGA, this resolution is the second most popular. XGA projectors tend to be more expensive than SVGA projector but prices are dropping due to the increased use of XGA laptop computers. SXGA 1280 x 1024 SXGA products are geared towards high-end personal computers and low end workstations. They are often used in situations where acute resolution of small details is needed. UXGA 1600 x 1200 UXGA is aimed at workstation applications with very high resolution. There are not very many products that have UXGA native resolution.

Brightness is measured in lumens. The lumens can range anywhere from 300 lumens to 3300 lumens, with 3300 being the brightest. Lumen Range Comments 300 - 500 lumens These will usually be the least expensive projectors. Also, the low light output may require your presentations to be made in a dark or dimly lit room. 500 - 1000 lumens Projectors in this range are geared toward normal business conference room and classroom use.
